How It Works

Usage and Safety
Side Effects
Common: Weight gain, drowsiness, increased appetite, dry mouth, dizziness.

Drug Interactions
May interact with: benzodiazepines, alcohol, carbamazepine, fluvoxamine, fluoxetine, antihypertensive drugs, antidiabetic medications, and CNS depressants.
Indications
Olanzapine is indicated for:
Schizophrenia
Bipolar I disorder (manic or mixed episodes)
Maintenance therapy in bipolar disorder
Adjunct treatment in resistant depression (under specialist care)

Known hypersensitivity to Olanzapine or any component of the formulation
Severe central nervous system depression
Precautions
Use with caution in patients with diabetes, cardiovascular disease, seizure disorders, or obesity. Regular monitoring of blood glucose, lipid profile, and weight is recommended during therapy.
Warnings
Warning 1:
Increased risk of metabolic changes including weight gain, hyperglycemia, and dyslipidemia.
Warning 2:
May cause drowsiness; patients should avoid driving or operating heavy machinery until response is known.
Warning 3:
Elderly patients with dementia-related psychosis treated with antipsychotics have an increased risk of mortality.
